Here are two things I know about my mother:

1. She had dark hair, like mine.

2. She wasn’t very happy at the end.

Anna has always believed that her mother, Debbie, died 30 years ago on the night she disappeared.

But when her father gets a strange note, she realises that she’s never been told the full story of what happened that night on the cliff.

Confused and upset, Anna turns to her husband Jack – but when she finds a love letter from another woman in his wallet, she realises there’s no-one left to help her, least of all her family.

My opinion.

The chapters of this book alternate between past and present, Debbie's story and Anna's. Eventhough there's a 30 year time gap between those two, at times they almost blur into one. Both women have this cloud of mistrust and suspicion hanging over their lives. They doubt their friends and family, but mostly they start doubting themselves. And neither can turn to their husband for help, support or understanding.

I struggled reading this first part of the story. It was chaotic and confusing, because both had more questions than answers and as I reader you know even less. Every time you thought you'd picked up on a clue, the story went into a different direction still.

Until the story accelerates and the puzzle pieces keep falling into place. All the different clues and everyone's actions find their place into the bigger story. It's nothing like I expected it to be, but once the truth began to unravel, I couldn't stop reading. Dark and chaotic, '11 missed calls' is both intriguing and addictive.
