Book review: If I Could Turn Back Time - Nicola Doherty

What if you found The One, then lost him again?

Or not so much lost him as became the neurotic, needy girlfriend from hell. The girl who tried to make him choose between her and his job, and got seriously paranoid about his relationship with his female best friend...
Zoë Kennedy knows she doesn't deserve another chance with David Fitzgerald. But if there's the tiniest possibility of making things right, she'll snatch it. Even if it means breaking the laws of physics to do so...

My opinion.
I really enjoyed reading If I Could Turn Back Time. Both the catchy title and beautiful cover made me take notice: this book just screamed "fun"!
One of the best things about it is the fact that the blurb/synopsis doesn't give away too much. You can sit back and enjoy Zoë's story without having any spoilers in the back of your mind.
As for Zoë, she's a wonderful MC. I instantly liked her. She gets herself into a few messy situations but they, surprisingly, didn't get on my nerves.

If I Could Turn Back Time
is a funny, enjoyable and fast read. I couldn't put it down. I had so much fun reading it and couldn't get the characters out of my mind.
I definitely recommend this book!

Book review: Tied Up With Love - Amelia Thorne (Reviews By Mom)

‘We’re from KMW. Do exactly as you’re told and you won’t get hurt...'

Being grabbed off the street, blind folded, tied up and thrown into a van was not what Izzy expected to happen when she stepped out the door that morning. But when an accidental kidnapping at the hands of the sexy Ethan Chase and his 'Kidnap My Wife' sexual fantasy business leads to just that, Izzy seizes the chance to turn her misfortune into a brilliant new job opportunity…

Since then, life has been one big tangle of new client meetings, fake kidnapping pick-ups, and handling the temperamental, but drop dead gorgeous 'bad boy' Mr Chase. But, as liberating as being tied up in Ethan's life is, Izzy knows the time is fast approaching when she must make some decisions and take charge of her future. The only question is: will Ethan allow himself to be a part of it?

Review By Mom.
Tied Up With Love is a compelling, romantic read. Even though you have a good idea of where the story is going, Amelia Thorne surprises you with some unexpected twists along the way and you'll just want to read more.
The title is very well chosen. The story is romantic without being too "cheesy" with some more "hot" scenes and a good dose of humor which makes it a very pleasant and fun, feel-good read.

Downton Abbey - Rules for Household Staff

The household staff of Downton Abbey carries out their duties with effortless dignity, finesse and pride. Yet how do they know how exactly to lay the table, when to leave the room to give Lord and Lady Grantham their privacy, how to care for Lady Mary's furs and which uniform to wear when? This recently recovered and fascinating staff handbook answers all of these questions and more.

Covering all the main positions of the Downton household—footman, lady's maid, housekeeper, groundsman and more—and with a general introduction for new members of staff from Carson the Butler, this book tells you everything you need to know about working below stairs in the grand estate of Downton Abbey.

My opinion.
What a fun little book to have on your shelf! As the "blurb" above says it all, there's not more I can add than a few pictures to win you over. This is, obviously, not a traditional read so I won't be reviewing it as such. I love having this book, I'm glad I bought it and I catch myself using it as my little encyclopedia whenever I'm (re)watching Downton episodes.
If you haven't seen the show yet - seriously, what are you waiting for? This is thé best show ever - but you are interested in the "upstairs downstairs" period in (mostly) English history, this is still a valuable and interesting book to have.
I picked out a few of the many lovely little details/episodes in the book that I really loved and enjoyed:

Downton-fans will recognize this as Mrs. Hughes' keys
the bell board
Chapter on one of the most important members of staff: the butler!
Downton-fans will recognize our very own Mr. Carson!
Other chapters give more detail on the responsibilities of the Valet, House Made,...

Book review: Waiting For Prince Harry - Aven Ellis (Reviews By Mom)

Twenty-four-year-old Kylie Reed has always been a rule follower. Organized and cautious to a fault, her dreams for life are often filed away for future use—when she has a house, when she meets her future husband, when she has been at her visual display job at a chic Dallas boutique longer...Kylie always has a reason for living her life in the future, not in the present, and not living her life to the fullest and reaching her dream of becoming a fashion designer.

The only exception to rules, of course, would be running away with Prince Harry—Kylie’s ideal man. A hot, fun ginger boy would be worth breaking all the rules for, of course. And Kylie is sure Harry just needs the right, centering woman to settle him down. But living in Dallas and not knowing Prince Harry make this a non-option.

Or does it?

Because when Kylie accidentally falls into the lap of a gorgeous ginger boy—yes, even more gorgeous than the real Prince Harry—all bets are off. Could this stranger be the one to show Kylie how to take a chance, to face her fears, and live in the present? And could this stranger be the Prince Harry she has been waiting for? Kylie’s life takes some unexpected twists and turns thanks to this chance encounter, and she knows her life will never be the same because of it...

Review by mom.
Waiting for Prince Harry is another charming, lovely story by Aven Ellis; After reading her debut novel Connectivity (read my review here), I couldn't wait to get started on another one of her novels.
It tells the touching story of the attraction between two people of completely opposite worlds. It's funny, amusing and relaxing. Reading an Aven Ellis novel, you lose yourself in a beautiful, romantic story and it leaves you feeling happy and relaxed. It's very easy to relate to the characters and once you started reading, you just want to know how the story will unravel.

About the author.
Aven Ellis has been writing fiction since she was sixteen. She studied communications at a large Midwestern university, and after graduation, Aven worked as a reporter for a community newspaper, followed by a stint at a public relations agency.

But writing about city council meetings and restaurant franchises was not as much fun as writing for young women trying to figure out their careers and potential boyfriends. So Aven got herself a job in television that allowed her to write at night.  Connectivity is Aven’s debut novel; she has also written Waiting For Prince Harry and Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista (New Adult romantic comedy).

Aven lives in Dallas with her family. When she is not writing, Aven enjoys shopping, cooking, connecting with friends on social media, and watching any show that features Gordon Ramsay.
