Book review: Connectivity - Aven Ellis (Reviews By Mom)

As you all know, I'm a massive fan of Aven Ellis' books.
I love love LOVE her.
So when my mum asked me for some e-book recommendations,
I hooked her up with some Aven Ellis magic.

The Blurb.
Overachiever Mary-Kate Grant (who is indeed named after an Olsen Twin) has followed every rule to the letter to pursue her dream of working in TV programming. Ripping a page from the “hard work pays off” playbook, she takes an assistant level job at a Chicago sports network to break into the industry.

MK has no time or desire for a relationship right now—she is totally focused on her career and being independent, unlike the other women in her family.

But MK’s plans are run through the shredder when she finds herself working for William Cumberland, a British media mogul who made his fortune with Connectivity, a social media site. William blows into Chicago just like the winds off Lake Michigan and purchases the group of networks MK works for—and makes her his personal assistant in the process.

Suddenly MK finds her career plans in jeopardy. William makes her question everything she has ever thought and has the uncanny ability to see right through her. And for the first time in her life, MK finds herself not only questioning what she wants for her career but for her personal life as well…

Review By Mom
Connectivity reads "like a knife through butter". It's easy, it's fun, it's enjoyable.
Once you’ve started you want to read more and you want to know how the relationship between MK and WC will evolve. Will it end up like everyone around MK predicts or will the budding romance continue?
I really enjoyed their flirty banter and by using text messages/... Aven Ellis gave it a modern, fun twist.
It’s af feel good story, romantic, funny . Every now and then predictable but nevertheless the perfect read to sit back and relax. I'm already looking forward to reading more of Aven Ellis' books.

About the author.
Aven Ellis has been writing fiction since she was sixteen. She studied communications at a large Midwestern university, and after graduation, Aven worked as a reporter for a community newspaper, followed by a stint at a public relations agency.

But writing about city council meetings and restaurant franchises was not as much fun as writing for young women trying to figure out their careers and potential boyfriends. So Aven got herself a job in television that allowed her to write at night.  Connectivity is Aven’s debut novel; she has also written Waiting For Prince Harry and Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista (New Adult romantic comedy).

Aven lives in Dallas with her family. When she is not writing, Aven enjoys shopping, cooking, connecting with friends on social media, and watching any show that features Gordon Ramsay.

Book Review: Learn To Love Again - Ellen Faith

Living in a small seaside village can have its perks, but after the death of her husband, Lillie Gilbert finds the people she grew up with turning against her faster than the tide rolls out.

As she grieves for the life they planned, the life they’ll never live, she leans on her best friend for support and tries to come to terms with the fact that one day, she may have to open up her heart to a new life and new love.

After losing her childhood sweetheart, can Lillie really Learn to Love Again?

My opinion:
From the moment I started reading Learn To Love Again I felt heartbroken. Lillie's pain is described so beautifully and realistically. Without even knowing her as a character, or knowing what actually happened to her, I felt protective over Lillie. I've never felt so close, so emotional towards  a character this soon (a couple of pages) into a story.
A cried a. lot. reading this novella. But the beautiful thing about Ellen Faith's writing is that it didn't make me said. I was emotional and touched, but also really hopeful for the characters to find their happiness (again).
Learn To Love Again is a wonderful read. Ellen Faith draws you in from the moment you start with beautifully described raw emotions, 'real' characters, honest conversations and intense confrontations. Beautiful.

Thank you, Ellen, for giving me the opportunity to BETA-read
Learn To Love Again. I honestly enjoyed every moment of reading this story.

Competition: Tied Up With Love - Amelia Thorne

'We’re from KMW. Do exactly as you’re told and you won’t get hurt...'
Being grabbed off the street, blind folded, tied up and thrown into a van was not what Izzy expected to happen when she stepped out the door that morning. But when an accidental kidnapping at the hands of the sexy Ethan Chase and his 'Kidnap My Wife' sexual fantasy business leads to just that, Izzy seizes the chance to turn her misfortune into a brilliant new job opportunity…
Since then, life has been one big tangle of new client meetings, fake kidnapping pick-ups, and handling the temperamental, but drop dead gorgeous 'bad boy' Mr Chase. But, as liberating as being tied up in Ethan's life is, Izzy knows the time is fast approaching when she must make some decisions and take charge of her future. The only question is: will Ethan allow himself to be a part of it?

Book review: A Storm Of Swords; Steel and Snow (A Song of Ice and Fire #3 - part 1) - George R.R. Martin

Click the cover to read my review for "A Game Of Thrones" and "A Clash Of Kings"
(A Song of Ice and Fire #1 and #2)

Winter approaches Westeros like an angry beast.

The Seven Kingdoms are divided by revolt and blood feud. In the northern wastes, a horde of hungry,

savage people steeped in the dark magic of the wilderness is poised to invade the Kingdom of the North where Robb Stark wears his new-forged crown. And Robb's defences are ranged against the South, the land of the cunning and cruel Lannisters, who have his young sisters in their power.

Throughout Westeros, the war for the Iron Throne rages more fiercely than ever, but if the Wall is breached, no king will live to claim it

My opinion.
I honestly have no idea how to write this review. I mean, how many more ways are there to express my LOVE for this series? Unlike other series, I don't feel like each book tells a story on it's own. I've already started the next installment, just because there was no way I felt like another chapter was closed.
By now I do have my favourite characters, and characters I don't enjoy reading about all that much. But even that I consider to be a good thing: it slows you down just enough to actually enjoy the reading process. Westeros is a dangerous world to get caught up in and it's so easy to forget you don't actually live there and you do have a life and things to do outside these pages.
Looking back on my review for book #2, I think this one was a little - and I mean LITTLE - more slow paced. I think each individual character and story line got a bit more attention.
For fans of the series: this is the point where book and series start to show some differences, especially in timing and of course detail and depth.
That's it really. The book is another fabulous installment in an even more fabulous series.
