Book tour: Breakout - Aven Ellis (Dallas Demons #3)
While Texas is known for loving football, Lexi Stewart has always been drawn to the ice. Hockey is her passion, and she wants nothing more than to pursue a career in video editing for the home network of the Dallas Demons hockey team.
Lexi has an editing job for a corporate account, but it’s not fulfilling. Nor is her dating life, despite having the so-called help of The One Online Dating Service. Lexi knows there has to be more for her—on both fronts. She’s ready to take the next step, but it doesn't seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon.
Until a flying puck changes everything.
As Lexi shoots a Dallas Demons practice to hone her editing skills, a stray puck soars in her direction, and her whole life is turned upside down by the gorgeous man who pushes her out of harm’s way.
Niko Xenakis is the new Dallas Demons TV producer, and he’s looking to make his mark in his new role and hopefully work his way back to his hometown of Baltimore. But once he meets Lexi, he might just change his mind on what he wants for his future . . .
But the road to love is never easy, complicated by the fact that they both carry emotional baggage from the past in their hearts. Can these two breakout of the past to find love in the present?
My opinion.
Breakout is the exact reason why I'm such a fan of Aven Ellis.
In just a few simple lines she sketches out the most amazing characters. She has the ability to make you fall in love with them instantly. And Niko and Lexi are no exception.
Now, it's easy to say that "a guy is hot" and leave the rest up to your readers' imagination. But if there's one thing our wonderful Aven Ellis never fails to do, it's writing a detailed character description. You don't just have to take her worth for it: her men are hot. Smoking hot. And wow-o-wow do we love Niko! Instant book crush.
And just as she writes up these fabulous and detailed characters - both their looks and their personalities, quirks, likes and dislikes - the chemistry they have just radiates off the pages of this book. I felt every emotion they did and ended up completely in love.
What makes Aven Ellis' novels stand out though, is that she always writes real characters. Both Niko and Lexi have their insecurities and even though you might sometimes wish they'd just be a bit more confident, it's what makes them so real and easy to relate to. It's not just "boy meets girl, the end". Niko and Lexi have a few obstacles to overcome and it makes the romance in this book even stronger.
But apart from romance, both hot and sweet, Breakout also has an amazing sense of humor. I don't want to give anything away here, but let's just say that CiCi is an absolute star.
The amount of love and effort Aven puts into her stories and her characters is tangible in every page, and with Breakout she might have read my favourite book of hers yet.
