Scarlett St. Clair - A Touch of Darkness (Hades x Persephone Saga #1)

The blurb.
Persephone is the Goddess of Spring in title only. Since she was a little girl, flowers have only shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hoped to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. All of that changes when she sits down in a forbidden nightclub to play a hand of cards with a hypnotic and mysterious stranger.
Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. But nothing has ever intrigued him as much as the goddess offering him a bargain he can't resist.
After her encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead, and his terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever. The bet does more than expose Persephone's failure as a goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows―a love that is both captivating and forbidden.

My review.
What an incredible read. This is easily the best book recommendation someone gave me. If you don't mind risking a bookhangover, this absolute dream of a series is for you.
Ancient Greek gods in a modern world, a forbidden love connection and a lot of heat. What's not to love?! I'm so happy this is only the first book in a series, because I simply cannot get enough of this stunning world created by Scarlett St. Clair, or these complex, multilayered and very (very) steamy characters. There's clearly so much more to discover and having it span several books will, I'm sure, do this gorgeous world and characters justice. But despite this being only the first book, it's a detailed, addictive story in its own right, not needing any (promise of) sequels or cliffhangers to keep it interesting.
The tension between Persephone and Hades is scalding hot, their dynamic and conversations fast paced, funny and sexy.
I've read this book twice in 24h, reading it a second time to annotate - something I've never done before, but there was just too much I wanted too hold onto here and I did not have the patience to slow down my reading to annotate the first time, being swept up in this world and romance.
Obsessed with this series. Can you guess what I'm reading next? ;-) Check back soon for Hades x Persephone Saga #2, A Touch Of Ruin! Although this love story better have a happy ending, because I would not survive the heartbreak that would cause...
