Book tour: Plan Bea - Hilary Grossman (+ giveaway)

How well do you really know the people in your life?

Annabel O’Conner has the perfect husband, two adorable children, an amazing job, and the mother from hell! Annabel doesn’t like it but has come to terms with the fact that her relationship with her mother, Bea, deteriorated to the point of forced and strained communications. However, an unscheduled call from Bea turns her world around and makes Annabel question everything she believed about her life.

Despite the fact secrets, lies, and misplaced blame have destroyed the women’s relationship; Annabel reluctantly agrees to help Bea plan her wedding. Little does Annabel know the impact of her decision.

In this Women’s Contemporary Fiction novel, Hilary Grossman explores the complex relationship that exists between mothers and daughters in a light-hearted and relatable manner.

My opinion.
In Plan Bea Hilary Grossman introduces some interesting characters. It's clear from the start that she's really invested in them and she really 'knows' them. They all have their stories and Hilary really took the time to figure out 'what makes them tick', and to communicate those details to her readers.
The same goes for the story itself. It's much more layered than you'd have thought and as the story goes on, Hilary digs deep into this family's history and dynamics.
That being said though, this is a lot of information for a 200-something paged novel. In trying to get as much information and details across as possible, not all of it felt natural.
Annabel, the main character, is really conflicted about the situation. Can she let go of the past and appreciate Bea being in her life? Or are her efforts towards Anna too little, too late? This feeling of conflict however is at times visible in the way the book is written. Sometimes you're with Anna in "the here and now", other times she feels distant and talks/thinks about the situation with reflection, as if it's been a while since it's happened.
I enjoyed discovering the juicy and at times incredibly dramatic and horrific stories that lay in this family's past, and seeing Anna and Bea's relationship evolve.
